DESCRIPTION

eCOGITO – Translation solution isa software platform for automated translation, with possibility of personalizing linguistic resources (vocabulary, dictionaries, grammatical rules) according to the client’s field of activity.

The translation solutionsupposes the creation of a personalized project according to the client’s needs, the company’s field of activity and specific activities. It consists of:

1. eCOGITO – translation application that can be integrated into the company’s document flow, offering the client easy access to the translation server. It performs automated translation of documents, web pages and e-mails from English into Romanian.
2. Personalization for the client’s field of activity (e.g. law, economics, politics, information technology, telecommunications, transport, etc.) and specific activities(administrative, commercial, economic, legal, etc.) carried out by IASSID’s specialists in computational linguistics, in accordance with the technical offer.
   The personalized translation solution provides access to an advanced information management, increases the number of external contracts and the ability to compete on the global markets. The company can access the latest news regarding our field of activity in a very short time, acquiring high flexibility in the development of new services. Therefore, we will be able to develop new methods of electronic or virtual collaboration, e-business, m-business, e-work, e-learning, automated systems of reporting and synthesizing. 
3. Client support services supposing:

• Auxiliary services concerning installation of translation server and web server Training services regarding system use and administration
• Consulting on the optimization of the translation activity
• Update of the software application and/or update of the linguistic resources
• Upgrade (application versions).

LINGUISTIC RESOURCES

The translation supposes grammatical (morphologic, syntactic, structural) and semantic analysis of the source document, followed by syntactic-semantic transfer into the target language. These processes are run by the linguistic Processor for the Romanian language developed by IASSID.

 The client’s field of activity (e.g. information technology, telecommunication, transport, law, etc.) and specific activities (administrative, commercial, economic, production, financing programs, etc.) are reflected in the linguistic resources (personalized or newly created).

IASSID boasts vast collections of linguistic resources: vocabularies, dictionaries, glossaries of general or field-specific terms. All these constitute the basic linguistic support for the stage of personalizing the translation solution.

The client can define the translation solution according to specific areas of interest. The fields intended to be translation assisted can be gradually developed, starting from a base module (general).

IMPLEMENTATION PLAN

Translation accuracy is initially (with no personalization for the client’s domain) one of 10-20%. By integrating the field-specific vocabulary, accuracy increases to 50-60%. In four or five month’s time, as a result of assisting the field-specific resources, the translation will attain 80-90% accuracy. By subsequent utilization of the translation support tools (translator’s workbench, term extractor, etc.), the user may help to increase accuracy to 90-99%.
